A Democratic Party committee in California is organizing a rally outside the Capitol to protest the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. Mark Gidari, a spokesman for the Orange County Republican Party, told the Weekly Standard that the California Democratic Party’s 75th anniversary committee, called CA-75, held an event last month in Beverly Hills for about 150 people. “As it turned out,” Gidari said, “there was more interest in what [Kavanaugh] had to say at the event than Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination.” CA-75’s executive director, Ryan Horne, told the Weekly Standard that the committee is now organizing a Capitol Hill rally on September 18, the day before Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, in part because of concern about the impact of the president’s top judicial nominee. “We were certainly aware of the possibility of a Justice Kavanaugh nomination, but it was not a given,” Horne said. “When we look back at who has been nominated and who hasn’t been nominated, we could see that there was a clear desire in California and elsewhere to have a female or Latino justice in that position, and that there were women and
